EU AI Act Compliance

EU AI Act Compliance

What is the EU Artificial Intelligence Act?

The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (“the EU AI Act" or “the act”) is designed to make AI safer, more transparent, and fair for everyone. Effective from August 1, 2024, it applies to any company whose AI affects people in the EU. The act’s primary goal is to ensure AI supports human judgment fairly and responsibly.

It brings a risk-based regulatory framework with the primary goal of protecting fundamental rights and safety. AI tools that support hiring or education are expected to be transparent and practice with fairness, clarity, and human involvement.

For hiring teams and hiring platforms, the EU AI Act means being clear about how AI works, giving people control, and making sure humans stay in charge of final decisions. It encourages companies to build AI that supports fair opportunities, protects candidates, and helps employers make confident, well-informed choices.

Jobma’s Approach to the EU AI Act

Jobma is designed to align with the requirements of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act by prioritizing transparency, fairness, and data protection throughout the hiring workflow.

We clearly inform candidates when AI is used, provide explanations of automated assessments, and ensure that any algorithmic scoring is interpretable, editable, and auditable. Recruiters retain full authority over final decisions, and AI functions only as a complementary tool rather than replacing human judgment. AI doesn’t make any hiring decisions and requires active oversight from a human recruiter.

The platform also undergoes continuous risk assessment, bias testing, and performance monitoring. In addition, all personal data, including video recordings, is processed according to GDPR principles, with strict retention limits, access controls, and security safeguards. Lastly, all of our AI features are disabled by default and are “Opt In” for employers to use.

What it Means for Jobma’s Customers

Organizations using AI in hiring may have a responsibility under the EU AI Act. So, Jobma’s approach helps you by making key compliance elements part of the platform itself.

Who might be affected?

You may have obligations under the EU AI Act, as a “deployer” if your organization:

  • Uses AI systems (including those in Jobma) for recruiting or screening that impact EU-based candidates or operations
  • Deploys tools that influence hiring decisions

How Jobma supports you:

  • Jobma clearly defines its AI features in the platform and across its website, including the Privacy Policy, Security & Compliance pages, and platform communications. These resources show how insights are generated and can explain them to stakeholders and candidates.
  • Our workflows are designed to mandate human decision-making, so recruiters retain control over hiring outcomes.
  • Jobma’s AI tools are designed to complement your process, giving you space to decide how much weight you give to AI-assisted insights.
  • We keep our documentation and disclosures up to date as the regulatory landscape evolves.

What you may want to consider:

  • Review how and where you use Jobma’s AI features in your hiring process.
  • While we clearly inform candidates about the use of AI, we also encourage you to mention when AI is involved and share disclosures before the candidates start their interview process.
  • Identify the AI features your team relies on the most, and assess their impact on your hiring decisions.
  • Review internal practices to ensure AI inputs are used responsibly and consistently.

This gives you a solid foundation to align your hiring practices with the EU AI Act while relying on Jobma for the practical transparency and support you need.
